I Got Hit In The Face

Last night was the annual UP vs Gonzaga basketball game at UP. I was lucky enough to have front row seats behind the basket and the cheerleaders.

At one point in search for the ball, one Gonzaga player decided to face plant himself in a friend’s chest. That friend being Jason.

While we were still talking about a large man falling on Jason, I was privileged enough to look up just as the ball was hitting me in the face. I would like to say I took it on the chin with a grin, but it was more like on the nose with a smile (and a bloody nose). Jason later told me he could have stopped it, but since I didn’t help him with the falling man, I was on my own for that one.

And that was my Monday.

Planning Trips Is Annoying

I am in the process of planning a trip to Pamplona, Spain this summer to Run with the Bulls. I have realized I know nothing about the travel system in Europe. Ok, I am fairly certain they have planes, trains, and automobiles over there, but learning all about their systems is an adventure in itself.

As of now, we think we are going to go from PDX to Dublin, Ireland. After three nights there, we are flying down to Spain (possibly through Madrid, possibly straight to Pamplona) for two or three more nights. Then comes the transcontinental train ride to Paris. No that is not transcontinental but it really long. Three nights in Paris. Amsterdam will be our final stop.

I am really looking forward to this trip since I have never been to Europe. Making sure there are flights/trains leaving and coming on the days we want them too is exhausting. We will figure it out though and there will be more on this later.

Global Warming Is Awesome

Who would have thought it would have topped 70 degrees three times in the last week, and if you hadn’t noticed it’s October. This stuff is sweet. Bring it on.

The warm weather in October is so freaking awesome that Wallstrip had a piece on what it will mean for the markets in the coming months. Pretty darn funny.

Hope you get a chance to get out there and enjoy it before the cold 50 degrees of January come knocking.

You Would Cry Too If It Happened To You

Last August I was hit by a car (or boat depending on who you ask) while I was riding my bike. Well it turns out, I am not the only person who thinks those who do not have their turn signals on should not turn. I say that because last Thursday it happened again. This time the story replaces the car/boat with a cement truck.

This post is dedicated to Tracey Sparling. I would also ask everybody to look for cyclist before turning right.

Set A Goal (Run For Fun Series)

This post is part of the Run For Fun … or Health series.

There are many reason why a person would need or want to begin running. It could be for sport, health, or shear boredom. Whatever the case might be, you may find it easier if you set a goal to not only stay motivated but also bring more personally competition into the mix.

Your goal could be simple. Perhaps you would like to get rid of the extra 75,000 pounds you have been carrying around. Feeling better and having more energy are always options. Time to relax and not think about the ups and downs of life might be one of your goals - relaxation and meditation cannot be bad for anybody. In the movie American Beauty, the main character starts running. After being asked what his motivation is he states:

I want to look good naked.

Simple and to the point. He set a goal and he stuck to it because he needed to impress himself or others.

Whatever your motivation is, sit down (ok you can stand) and decide why you are running/exercising and what you would like to get out of it. With this information you will be able to see the proper results when they come.
