A Merry Christmas Minus Two

I just got back from my folks house after a few days of Christmas celebrations. It was the same old stuff except we were missing two.

My sister, who moved to Arizona last May for graduate school was down there on a simi-break from school. No class but still homework.

Also my kittie passed on the during the night before Christmas Eve. She was a good kittie and will be missed mucho. It is quite an event for my life, since I have had her since I was 5. It was quite a surprise she lived this long, she has had arthritis since I was in high school. She made it three years longer than her brother who was diabetic.

Merry Christmas all. Please feel free to tell me how yours went!

New Christmas Party Gift Exchange Method

Last night, Formos had its Christmas party. It was a fun time - catered food, open bar (well until they ran out).

After dinner though was when the excitement began. The boss had come up with this new gift give away ‘game’ like thing. Here is how it all went down…

First off he gave everybody $242 of Monopoly money. This is apparently how Monopoly money devides evenly between about 20 people. The next step was to get two really large bags (about the size of that mini-fridge you had in college). In one of them, he placed wrapped gifts and the other had unwrapped. None of the gifts were really expensive. There was Monopoly (hahaha - the money for this game wasn’t from that), come clothes, iTunes gift cards, you get the picture.

“Ok, here comes the fun party.” The boss pulls out one gift at a time and starts auctioning them off. When you are out of money, well, hope you had fun - or at least got some cool stuff. If you end up winning something but don’t wont it, you could always put it up for auction again, hope to make your money back, etc. Everybody eventually got a prize, some high-rollers, got a few. All in all, a good idea.

What did I get you ask? I ended up spending about $100 on a sushi set. You know chopstick, the soy sauce trays, bamboo roll maker sticks, the works. Yes those are technical terms. If you go to a sushi joint as ask them what the bamboo things are, they will say bamboo roll maker sticks - in Japanese of course.

So now I have to get some rice and almost dead fish and try my hand at making sushi.

I Got Business Cards

Formos gave me my business cards this week. They are reasonably exciting and unlike some people, they spelled my name right.

Like normal, if I come across a scanner, I will probably put a copy up here. Until then, you can just ask me for one.

Diplomas are Sexy

It’s official; I now have a piece of paper which says I have graduated college.

Today during my lunch, I ran over to school to pick up my diploma. And wouldn’t you know, they spelled my name wrong. For the record to all that read this, there are two (2), yes, two (2) of those nice letters we all like to call ‘n’ in my last name, but you already knew that of course. They were nice enough to fix the error right there on the spot though.

I have not been able to check my grades yet (to see if I actually passed my classes) because there is a hold on my account. Apparently, you cannot get grades, graduate, register for classes, or even breath at the University of Portland with a hold on your account, but you can pick up your diploma.

If I get a chance, I will try to scan it and put a picture up here, so that all of you can see what it looks like without either graduating from UP or coming to visit my house. But first I have to find a scanner - since I don’t have one.

I would like to thank my parents for teaching me how to believe in me. Without them, I would probably be flipping burgers or something boring like that.

Top Ten Blogs Demonstrate Same Layout

Heathbolt has done an analysis of the top 10 sites in Technorati to determine the placement of various items on the page. There are a variety of items which can be on any person’s blog or website, but it seems (as you can image) that there are some things which come up more then others such as ads, search areas, contact (RSS or email), or content to name a few.

It seems though that these 10 basically put their information/elements in the same areas. Go ahead and click through to see what they have found. The post requires readers to login to make comments which is kinda annoying, but I don’t. Feel free to post anything entertaining.

One commenter even mentioned the possibility of an Eye Tracking Analysis - a process of watching the reader’s eyes to determine the natural path of importance and building the layout around that. What do you think?
