Multiple File Upload Applet

In order to make my photo album, I was in search of a multiple file uploading process of some sort for the users of my albums to use as a content management system. I really did not like the idea of the HTML form based way of doing so, especially since this would require for a shit load of possible single inputs. This would be not only annoying and frustrating for the user but also just stupid. I also did not really (although I would have) want to write my own way around this either.

So my search began. I figured in order to achieve this task the process would either need to be JavaScript or a Java Applet. I preferred Java just off hand, mostly to help the users since the SWT is more well-known then some other GUIs out there. My search of Google took me to HotScripts. I normally don’t really like HotScripts since most of the scripts on there are not free (I like free), but I tried it.

I came across JavaAtWork who makes a nice Java Applet called MyUploader. This allows for multiple file uploads - as desired. It has a progress bar, drag and drop, and parameters that allow the developer to make adjustments. It has also been configured to work with a script file (PHP, Java, JSP) so that the files can be modified as needed.

After I get this working I will post more about how it works and how I liked it…

I have released version 2.0 today. It is pretty exciting. The major changes include:

  • New CSS - yes it looks a ton better
  • New scripts - I redid all the code from top to bottom, hence the new version.
  • Adding all my domains and sites I manage to Site.stats and elsewhere on the site.
  • I created a Version.control page.

Now that I’m unemployed here are somethings that I will be working on.

Have a great day.

Well I have officially quit my job. Yes that’s right, I am now unemployed. Do I have another job ready and waiting for me to start soon? Not exactly. You may be asking, why in the world would you quit one job when you don’t have another on fall back on? Well here is my list:

  • Focus on school for the next few weeks. It was starting to take more time then I liked, so I need to reallot.
  • Start using my time to find a real job. $9/hr just didn’t seem worth it, so I will now focus my efforts to find a real job.
  • I have the rest of my life to work, so why not take some time and not for a few weeks.
  • I would be more likely to get and do some consulting side jobs this way. So if you know anybody who wants a web site built, send them my way.

  • Sally and George

So, you know those cats that keep coming over? Well if not click it! Well we decided to name the two cats with the help of LittleMic (Sally and George, of course). We also decided to let the little guys come in the house again.

So, Sally decided it was high time to venture up our stairs and see what there was to see. Now I don’t really want to have a long haired cat that I don’t know in my room. If I knew the long hair, that’s different. Mic decides to let the cat in anyway. After hearing this, I run upstairs to get Sally out of my room. For some reason she didn’t like me running up the stairs and bolts into Chris’ room. After a few ‘meows’ with Chris she says “Screw you guys. I’m leaving”.

Now here is where the problem starts. You don’t want to stop reading now. So Mic is standing in the hall as Sally comes out of Chris’ room. This perturbs the little kitty cat, which desperately searches for a new exit. At last she finds one. Jump down the stairs. Not just down the stairs, but down the stairs when I am walking down. I look up after hearing Sally come out of Chris’ room only to see her flying off the top of the stairs AT MY FACE. There is only one reaction when claws are flying at your face. Get the fuck out of the way. My feet come out from under me just in time for Sally to fly past my head. I survived the day, laughing hysterically as Sally lightenings out the back door, possibly never to be seen again.
